Birds of prey
In order for a bird to be categorised as a raptor it must be carnivorous, so it hunts and eats its prey and it must have talons with long claws to catch and kill their prey. These birds have a hooked beak and exceptionally good vision.
At Omega Park you can observe bald eagles and turkey vultures.
The bald eagle, the emblem of the United States, is an amazing diver and fisher. It will dive head first into the water at high speed, to stop it will open its wings whilst extending its talons to catch the prey.
The vulture is known as nature’s cleaner in North America as it is a scavenger and helps avoid the spread of disease. This bird can glide with minimal effort and migrates to the United States for winter.
