Sled dog groomer/guide

Do you love working close to nature? Do you have experience as a groomer/musher and are animals your passion?
Parc Omega is currently seeking candidates to fill the position of Sled Dog Guide and Animal Caretaker. Under the supervision of the Animal Care Manager, the candidate will be responsible for maintaining and caring for the animal environment and livestock.

Main tasks Musher
– Ensure that visitors are safely seated
– Drive the sled safely on the predetermined circuit
– Ensure that the course used for the activity is maintained and safe
– Participate in the training of the dogs
– Assist the animal handlers with the care of the dogs
– Any other related tasks

Main tasks animal caretaker

  • Allocate the daily ration to each animal under its responsibility
  • Monitoring livestock trends
  • Assist with the capture of animals if an exchange is required or to care for them
  • Maintain feeding areas, paddocks, driveways and fences
  • Answer visitors’ questions and direct them to the right resources
  • Ensuring a smooth journey by car
  • All other related tasks

Working conditions
– Mostly outdoor work, standing

– May be asked to work weekends, evenings and holidays depending on operational needs.

Requirements
– Training as a ”musher”
– Experience as a ”musher” in a wilderness environment
– Experience in animal care
– Ability to work outside in the cold
– Ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities
– Experience in customer service
– Valid driver’s license
– Bilingual (French, English)
– Ability to work as part of a team or independently

Animal care requirements

  • Certification or diploma in biology, conservation or ecology
  • Experience in a relevant field (1-3 years)
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Experience with animals (wildlife an asset)
  • Hunting and/or firearms permits
  • Ability to anticipate risks and react calmly and appropriately
  • Ability to work in a team and independently
