Naturalist – Wildlife interpretation

Job description

Parc Oméga is currently looking for a naturalist-animator specialized in wildlife interpretation to join its dynamic team. Under the supervision of the Naturalist Manager and the Conservation and Education Department, the incumbent is responsible for leading educational presentations highlighting Canadian wildlife, and participating in the Park’s various immersive experiences (guided tours, wolf and wolverine presentations, evening wolf cocktail, etc.).

This position combines animation, adding education, conservation awareness and field presence with animal ambassadors.

Main tasks

  • Host public presentations on wolves, wolverines and other iconic species
  • Participate actively in immersive activities: guided tours, wolf cocktail parties, special educational activities
  • Answer visitors’ questions and popularize wildlife information in an engaging way
  • Prepare interpretation material and ensure equipment is in good working order
  • Collaborate in behavioral observation and animal welfare monitoring
  • Assist other team members at special events or public training sessions
  • Ensure public and animal safety during supervised interactions
  • Participate in the training of new employees and the development of educational content
  • Perform all other related tasks

Skills required :

  • Excellent ability to popularize and adapt to the audience
  • Ability to lead groups in a variety of contexts (families, schools, VIPs)
  • Knowledge of large wildlife behaviour (wolves, deer, wolverine, etc.)
  • Autonomy, initiative and field observation skills
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Professional management of special activities (cocktails, private events)
  • Sensitivity to conservation and animal welfare issues
  • Stress management and calm during public interactions with animals
  • Attention to detail in the preparation of materials and presentation areas
  • Passion for Canadian wildlife and environmental education

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of North American flora and fauna
  • Experience in promoting, popularizing or interpreting natural heritage
  • Excellent communication and public relations skills
  • Bilingual (French and English, spoken)
  • Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle required for park use
  • Sense of responsibility, autonomy, team spirit
  • Comfort of working with wild animals in a controlled environment

Working conditions :

  • Permanent or part-time employment
  • Work schedule 15 to 35 hours per week, including weekends and holidays
  • Works mostly outdoors
  • Standing for long periods
